Every relationship has its own character, its own personality, and its own patterns. Each person brings to their relationships an entire history filled with lessons and learnings — some conscious, some non-conscious — that contribute to the developing patterns and processes that become embedded in the relationship's dynamic.

Like muscle memory, we automatically go through the motions in many of our most important relationships:

That fight we've had a thousand times...

That moves preparing to host a dinner party....

That dance about how we celebrate an anniversary...

In this webinar, you'll learn how relational dynamics are created, how they evolve over time, and what factors cause dysfunction within them. Discover ways to overcome the threats, both hidden and known, that stand in the way of a thriving, flourishing, healthy relationship.

How to discover your relational dynamics

Dr. Jake explains exactly how you and your partner can begin working together to better understand the invisible dance that exists between you.

What creates dysfunction in relational dynamics

Though many problems can exist in your relationship, Dr. Jake identifies two of the greatest threats to healthy relational dynamics: deficits and defences.

How relational dynamics can be transformed

In the final portion of the webinar, Dr. Jake will share the ways people can begin to dismantle their old dysfunction to build anew.

From the desk of Dr. Jake...

What if I told you there's a storm brewing, clouds slowly forming right above you, waiting to send a flood that could sweep you away!

Sounds dramatic, I know. But the reality is that every day many of us get "swept away" by the sudden onset of an emotional whirlwind. What begins as a small miscommunication explodes into a destructive dance of triggers and traumas, leaving heads spinning as we ask ourselves and our partners, "What was that fight really about?"

Every relationship has its own dynamic, a co-created pattern of stimulus and reaction encoded at the level of our implicit memories: fast, automatic, non-conscious, deeply engrained. These trauma dances are both expected and surprising. We know they're coming, but don't know exactly how or why or what we can do to stop them.

Some of my favorite work with couples is when I get to roll up my sleeve and dig down deep with them in the process of exploring these relational dynamics. I use my training in psychotherapy and developmental neurobiology to identify the reasons why people shift to states of self-protection at all costs. I help them to name the various developmental deficits that hold them back and the dangerous defense mechanisms that sabotage connection.

This is powerful work, and I am so excited to share it with you in this webinar! I hope it helps you break free from old dysfunctional patterns to create a new relational dynamic in which you and your partner flourish.
